The University of Peradeniya Alumni Association Western Australia Chapter (UPAAWA), celebrated its 13th Annual Get Together and Dinner Dance on the 31st October 2015 at the Sicilian Club, Balcatta, Perth. Over 300 participants attended the function. The formal part of the get together started with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by a Sri Lankan Poojah Dance and speeches from the president and the guest speaker. A colourful souvenir was distributed as a memento of the Dinner Dance.
A sumptuous three-course meal along with wine and a variety of entertainments including dance performances by professional dancers and humorous performance by a group of alumni formed the highlights of the evening. The Band “Kontinew” provided music throughout the night.
In keeping with tradition money raised from the Alumni get together will be donated to fund University of Peradeniya projects. Last year, UPAAWA donated 33 scholarships on an average of four scholarships, to each of the faculties of the University of Peradeniya. A raffle draw supported by prize donations from various businesses was conducted as a fundraising feature for the evening. A professional child-care facility was provided free of charge to facilitate the alumni with young families to attend the function. All participants had an enjoyable and memorable night.
